The need forharmonization in the diagnosis and scoring of GvHD has been recognized for manyyears and several other attempts have been made to improve this by the use ofelectronic tools but generally without success. The eGVHD App is availableeverywhere and could be used by any practitioner. The App could be ofparticular interest to HPCs with limited GvHD experience and can also be usedfor training. It remains to be seen whether the use of the eGVHD App, byimproving the grading of GvHD in daily practice, could have an impact onclinical decisions and transplant outcomes...ReadMore ">

Despite majorimprovements in the treatment landscape, most multiple myeloma (MM) patientseventually succumb to the underlying malignancy. Immunotherapy represents an attractivestrategy to achieve durable remissions due to its specificity and capacity forlong term memory.   There remains anunmet need to better understand the immunologic effects of checkpoint blockade, delineate mechanisms of resistance to these therapies and identify optimalcombination of agonistic signaling, checkpoint inhibitors as well as other therapies includingCAR-Ts, to realize the potential of the immune system to control and preventMM...ReadMore">

Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) is acomplex clonal hematological disorder classified among myelodysplastic (MDS)/myeloproliferative neoplasms. Prognosis is poor and there is a lack ofeffective treatments.  Thehypomethylating agent decitabine has shown activity against MDS and elderlyacute myeloid leukemia, but there is little data focusing specifically on itsefficacy in CMML.  An open-label phase 2was carried out to assess the efficacy and safety of decitabine in Italian CMMLpatients...ReadMore">

The presence of anaemia in chronic kidneydisease further increases the risk of left ventricular hypertrophy andoxidative stress, thereby magnifying the deleterious consequence in uraemiccardiomyopathy (UCM), and aggravating progression to failure and increasing therisk of sudden cardiac death. This review article highlights the specificcardio-renal oxidative stress in CKD and provides an understanding of thepathophysiology and impact of uraemic toxins, inflammation, and anaemia onoxidative stress...ReadMore">

Globally, sickle cell disease (SCD) is one ofthe most common haemoglobinopathy. Considered a public health problem, it leadsto vessel occlusion, blood stasis and chronic activation of the coagulationsystem responsible for vaso-occlussive crises and venous thromboembolism (VTE)which may be fatal.  A systematic reviewand meta-analysis was conducted to summarize existing evidence on the risk ofVTE in people with SCD or sickle trait (SCT)...ReadMore">

Abstract:  The bone marrow microenvironment, also knownas the bone marrow niche, is a complex network of cell types and acellularfactors that supports normal hematopoiesis. Recent evidences have shown that acute myeloid leukemia cells induceosteogenic differentiation in mesenchymal stromal cells to gain a growthadvantage. This review discusses about the role of the osteogenic niche in themaintenance of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, as well as theirtransformation into leukemia cells. Also, discussed the signaling pathways thatregulate osteogenic nichehematopoietic stem and progenitor cells or osteogenicniche-leukemic stem/initiating cell interactions in the bone marrow, togetherwith novel approaches for therapeutically targeting these interactions.ReadMore
