The concept of glucocrinology calls for anunderstanding of the links between diabetes and endocrine function. One of themost clinically relevant aspects of glucocrinology is the relationshipof thyroid function and glucose metabolism. This review discusses thevigilance that one must exercise, with respect to thyroidand glycaemicstatus, while managing diabetes and thyroid disease respectively. Weterm this clinical approach as thyrovigilance in diabetes, and asglucovigilance in thyroidology.ReadMore ">

Patients with rheumatic diseases, such asrheumatoid arthritis (RA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS), encountersignificantly higher rates of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Toinvestigate the levels of renin and aldosterone in RA and AS patients, threegroups were recruited, patients with RA, patients with AS, and healthycontrols.  Patients with RA tended tohave lower levels of plasma renin compared to healthy subjects. This findingindicates that the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system might not be directlyinvolved in the process that results in increased cardiovascular events inrheumatoid arthritis.ReadMore">
The efficacy ofangiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and angiotensin receptorblockers (ARBs) in reducing cardiovascular outcomes in patients with diabetesand overt nephropathy is still a controversial issue. A systematicreview and meta-analysis was therefore undertaken to assess the effects ofACEIs and ARBs on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with diabetes and overtnephropathy.  This study demonstratedthat ACEIs and ARBs did not reduce cardiovascular events in patients withdiabetes and overt nephropathy....ReadMore ">

Dopamine agonists (DA) are well established asfirst-line therapy for prolactinomas. These tumors express high levels ofdopamine 2 receptors (D2R), leading to the strong efficacy of DA in reducingtumor size and hormonal secretion. Other pituitary tumor subtypesexpress D2R to varying degrees, leading to an extensive body of research intopotential off-label use of DA innon-prolactinoma pituitary tumors...ReadMore">

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectof the co-administration of probiotic and selenium on parameters of mentalhealth, hormonal profiles, and biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stressin women with PCOS. Data on the effects of selenium and probioticco-supplementation on mental health, hormonal and inflammatory parameters ofpatients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are scarce. This investigationwas carried out to evaluate the effects of selenium and probioticco-supplementation on mental health, hormonal and inflammatory parameters inwomen with PCOS.  Overall, theco-administration of probiotic and selenium for 12 weeks to women with PCOS hadbeneficial effects on mental health parameters, serum total testosterone, hirsutism, hs-CRP, TAC, GSH and MDA levels...ReadMore ">

Antidiabetic drugs (OADs) are increasingly prescribedto treat hyperglycaemia during pregnancy in women with gestational diabetesmellitus (GDM) or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), eventhough long-term effects on offspring are unknown. A systematic reviewsummarises the evidence of follow-up studies of randomised controlled trials(RCTs) reporting on long-term effects of prenatal exposure to OADs onoffspring.

Onthe basis of this systematic review, there is evidence suggesting increasedoffspring weight in childhood after maternal metformin use during gestation. The clinical implication of this finding remains unclear, since we do not haveevidence on whether a minor effect on weight in these metformin-exposedchildren increases their risks of metabolic diseases like obesity, insulinresistance or diabetes in adolescence and later life...ReadMore ">
